The Great Pack

Put something IN, take something OUT...that's how this morning went, as I attempted to pack for myself and our sweet girl. We are SHARING a suitcase (insert big GULP). SHARING.Have you seen the way I pack for weekend trips?? I have been in communication with other families in our travel group, comparing packing lists and such. The one thing I came to learn--I have WAY too much packed. And so, finally, after deliberating and deliberating..what to take, what to leave behind..the duffel is packed...weighing in at 43 lbs. International weight can be 44 lbs...hmmm...gonna be tight!
We have also started getting the Boys ready for us to leave. We made a day chain, where they can tear off a chain each day that we are gone. The chain has little funny things written on each day. I also made a calendar that tells exactly what we will be doing each day. On our free days, Nick even drew in dragons and ninjas...we are supposed to look for those things on those days.......

Today we went to our first Chinese New Year Celebration. It was put on by a local group that we recently joined that is made up of families here in town with children adopted from China. It was really nice to connect with local families who share in our journey. Hopefully we will remain close with the group and meet some other Chinese children for Mia to get to know. The Boys had a blast eating, working on crafts and joining in on the Dragon dance. Nick even got to lead and wear the Dragon's head!!

When we stared this process and began to guess about possible travel times, we had talked about how amazing it would be to be in China during Chinese New Year...well.....here we go!! We can't wait to take in all of the sights. we hear that it is an amazing time to be there. Oh..and let's not forget, it will be Valentines Day, too! Guess I will be trading in my favorite Valentines date night at Terra for Peking Duck in Beijing....
