Beijing~ Day 1

Well, we successfully survived our first full day (alone) in Beijing!!
We didn't go to bed last night until sometime after midnight. Woke up at 5 am our time to Facetime with the Boys back home. Hit the breakfast buffet downstairs in our hotel..which is AMAZING! Headed back upstairs to our room, where I slept ALL DAY!!! Brian finally woke me up at 6 pm our time so that I could facetime with the Boys again before they headed off to school. So that we could say we did SOMETHING productive, we ventured out for our Valentine's Dinner. Our guide had suggested a local restaurant across the street from our hotel. I was nervous, but Brian REALLY had a craving for Peking Duck...a specialty here in China..so, off we went to the restaurant. Sadly, they were out of Peking duck (must be very popular). The waitress went on to suggest the pig knuckles and a braised lamb stew of some sort, which we kindly declined. We opted for safety...Kung Pao chicken, spring rolls, rice, beer and jasmine tea. It was de-lish!! Grand total for a table full of food...$21...woo hoo!!!
We ventured around town a little. Brian left his gloves at home, and so we were in desperate need to find a pair before we are out for touring tomorrow. He bargained with 2 different street vendors; one of which tried to sell them for $17, the other for $5..we settled on a pair of REAL Gortex gloves for around $10...success!!
We are in for the night, hoping to get MORE sleep and head out to see the city tomorrow.
Here are some photos from our 1st day!!

Gotta love watching Notting Hill in Chinese! Did you catch a glimpse of the bike with all of the trash tied to it?? Those are their "garbage trucks"!!

Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings! 4 more sleeps till we meet Mia!
Happy Valentine's Day from Beijing!!!!

blessings,
Angie
